1. What does it take to start a business in Apache Junction?: A fully completed business license application must be submitted. The application can be obtained from the City Clerk’s office. A zoning clearance may need to be processed, depending on your type of business. The Planning and Zoning staff are there to assist you with this. A fee of $50.00 is due upon submission of your completed business license application to the City Clerk’s office. Business Licenses

3. What is the population and median income for the City of Apache Junction?: The 2006 Arizona Department of Economic Security population for the City of Apache Junction is 35,685. The population for the market area within a 10-minute drive time is 71,834. The 2006 household income estimate for that same 10-minute drive market area is $ 53,141.

4. Why did the city tear down the Grand Hotel?: This seems to be a commonly held misconception. The City did NOT tear down the Grand Hotel. The site is privately owned and the owners made a business decision to tear it down. The building was structurally unsound from years of under investment and non-repair - by other owners - and had asbestos which required special handling and disposal. The City of Apache Junction has maintained a very close dialog with the current owners on possible revitalization of the site and is willing to consider a wide variety of re-uses. Current economic conditions and extremely tight commercial credit markets have not yet been resolved to allow for a successful project plan to come forward.
