Defensive Driving School Information
UPDATE RELATING TO COVID-19 AT THIS TIME, AVAILABILITY OF IN-PERSON DEFENSIVE DRIVING SCHOOL CLASSES IS LIMITED. DEFENSIVE DRIVING SCHOOL IS OFFERED ON-LINE AS WELL AS IN-PERSON.
To obtain a list of certified defensive driving schools you may call (888) 334-5565 or visit the published list of approved schools. You may also review the driving school information page at www.azdrive.com which includes a list of offenses eligible for defensive driving school.
Please review eligibility requirements on the "Civil Traffic Information Sheet and Fine Schedule" posted above or at the driving school website. You must complete the defensive driving school at least seven (7) days prior to your court date. You will need your citation in order to register and complete the class.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING TRAFFIC SCHOOL: You must allow ample time for the school to process your registration and completion information. It is not likely that you can complete the entire registration process in one day, especially if you are electing to complete the class on-line.
Financial Policies & Payment Options
Apache Junction Municipal Court Financial Policies Payments are accepted in the form of:
- Cash
- Personal Check
- Cashier’s Check
- Money Order
- Credit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover & American Express)
Cardholder must be present with a valid picture identification
Receipts will be provided for all payments made in person.
Be sure to keep your receipt as proof of payment
Dishonored Payments:
There is a $32.00 fee for non-sufficient funds (NSF), pursuant to Apache Junction City Ordinance, 1395.
There is a drop box at the court for after-hours payments. The drop box is located at the northeast corner of the court building next to the exit door.

Online at www.azcourtpay.com (additional fee charged by vendor) Online payment is only available if all violations on the citation are being paid in full and payment is being made on or before your original court date. You must have your citation (also known as a complaint) number or case number to pay online. You can obtain your case number at the Arizona Supreme Court public access website at www.azcourts.gov and select Case Search.
If you are required to pay fines, penalties, fees or other financial obligations as a result of a judgment of this court and you are unable to pay, bring this information to the attention of court staff or the judge because payments over time or other alternatives may be available. Do not ignore your responsibility to pay, as this may result in additional penalties and costs to you. For more information, contact the court or an attorney.
Dishonored payments will result in further court action. Court action could include actions such as suspending driving privileges, vehicle registration and/or issuing a warrant if applicable. Additional collection attempts will result in additional fees being imposed. AJCC § 4-2-1 states you are subject to fees outlined in ARS § 44-6852 plus any directly related costs for any returned payment. You may also be charged with ARS § 13-1807 Issuing A Bad Check.
Request a Payment Plan
If you choose to plead responsible to one or more civil traffic violations and are unable to pay in full by your court date, you may request the court consider setting a payment plan. Please review the "Civil Traffic Information Sheet and Fine Schedule" posted above. To enter a responsible plea and request a payment plan, you must appear in person or complete the following document and submit it to the court no later than your court date.

Plead "Not Responsible" Request Civil Hearing
If after reviewing the information on the "Civil Traffic Information and Fine Schedule" you are electing to contest one or more violations on your civil citation, please complete the "Request a Hearing" form below. Please review the form and complete the required information. The form will transmit to the court after you select "Submit". The court will schedule a civil hearing and send you the hearing notice. You are responsible to follow-up with the court if you do not receive a hearing notice within three business days of your request.
Juvenile Driver Information
If you are under 18 years old: You must appear with a parent for juvenile arraignment on your appearance date. You cannot use the mail to handle the complaint against you. Upon receipt of a conviction for a civil or criminal traffic moving violation, MVD will require you to attend Traffic Survival School on the first conviction and on any subsequent conviction will suspend your driving privileges.
Criminal Citation Information
If you have been cited for a criminal misdemeanor offense you must appear for your arraignment at the Apache Junction Municipal Court on the assigned court date. Continuances cannot be given over the phone. If you need to request a continuance you must appear at our walk-in docket before your court date to file a motion. Walk-ins are held Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday are 8:30am or 1:30pm Tuesday times are 1:30pm or 4:00pm. The court is closed on Fridays. Criminal violations cannot be paid in advance.
An arraignment is a court appearance in which you are formally notified of the charges that have been filed against you, the minimum and maximum penalties that could be imposed and a plea of guilty or not guilty is entered.

If a personal appearance in court would be an undue hardship and you wish to enter a guilty or no contest plea by mail please review the following document. This is only used for criminal violations.

Filing a Motion
You may see a judge during our walk-in docket Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday are 8:30am or 1:30pm Tuesday times are 1:30pm or 4:00pm. You may also submit a motion by mail or electronically through this website.
To complete an online motion form:
Fill out the form completely. An incomplete motion may not be able to be considered.
You may "Submit" the form electronically at the bottom of the motion form or select "Submit and Print" after completing the form to print a copy of the form after it is completed. After submitting the form, you must perform a print command to print the form; it will not print automatically.
YOU ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO GIVE ALL PARTIES IN THIS CASE A COMPLETE COPY OF THIS MOTION. The court may not consider your motion until you have completed service on all parties and they have had time to respond to your motion.
