Special Events

We provide a variety of special events to help build family unity, increase community pride, and create a fun and enjoyable recreational experience for everyone. If you are new to the community, or have been a resident for many years, we encourage you to participate and enjoy the great programs we offer. Join us every month for our Movies in the Park series at Flatiron Park!!! Bring your family out to enjoy a FREE movie on our 25 foot inflatable screen. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy a family evening or date night at the park watching a great movie.

Grab a blanket and your friends and family for an enjoyable evening outside listening to some great music! This FREE concert series takes place monthly during the months of January, February, March, September, October, and November at Flatiron Community Park (100 N. Lost Dutchman Days

This community event is sponsored by Superstition Mountain Promotional Corporation. This annual three-day community event is hosted on the last weekend in February. Bring your little ones out to enjoy this fun filled morning competing for prizes in our olympic style events. The next event will take place in March 2023 at Flatiron Community Park for Boys & Girls ages 1-6. Visit our Sports site for details.

Superstition Sleepover

Grab your tent, sleeping bags and your family and join Parks and Recreation as we camp out in our park. Enjoy a variety of outdoor activities during the day and relax to an evening of entertainment under the stars. Food will be provided. This event will take place in March. Antique Tractor Show

April Pool's Day

Superstition Fire & Medical District, AJ Parks & Recreation and AJ Police Department team up every April to conduct this Water Safety event. Bring the whole family and enjoy the various activities, home pool safety for parents, mini swim lessons, swim skill evaluations, raffles, and much more.

Fourth of July
Join Apache Junction Parks & Recreation Department as we celebrate Independence Day! Join us at Superstition Shadows Park for live music, activities and fireworks! The gates will open at 6pm, fireworks will start at 8:30 pm, weather permitting. This event is free. We will also live stream fireworks on our Facebook page.

Family Mud Run

The Mud Run is a great way for families to experience the obstacle race craze together! There are 2 routes; the shorter route is 1.25 miles, has about 10 obstacles and is designed for most participants ages 12 and under.  The longer route is 2.5 miles, has about 13 obstacles, and is designed for most participants 12 and over.

Halloween Festival 

Halloween is coming up and the City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation wants to make your night spook-ta-cular! We will be hosting our annual Halloween Festival the Saturday before Halloween. The event will take place at Superstition Shadows Park. This event is free to attend (there are some fees for some activities). Visit our Halloween Page for more info.

Festival of the Superstitions

This community partnership event is sponsored by the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce and is held every November in Downtown Apache Junction at Flatiron Community Park. There will be live entertainment, food, vendors, cornhole tournament, and much more! Holiday Program & Light Parade

The City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation will be hosting our annual Holiday Program & Light Parade the first Saturday in December. The event will take place at Flatiron Community Park. This event is free to the community! There will be lots of activities throughout the day for the whole family. Lost Dutchman Marathon

This community event is sponsored by Lost Dutchman Marathon Inc. This annual Lost Dutchman Marathon community event is hosted on President's Day weekend. The event includes a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 8K trail run and a 2- mile fun run.  For more information go to www.lostdutchmanmarathon.org

Easter Event

On the Saturday prior to Easter Sunday, Parks and Recreation host an annual egg hunt at Prospector Park. This event is held in the morning and has other activities, such as game booths, bounce houses and food options.
